The Yorkshire SEO knowledge centre
SEO Yorkshire
A practical guide to getting your Yorkshire business found online.
Find you.Trust you.Choose you.

Written and run by Halizona, based in Halifax with a York address on The Stonebow, working with businesses across Yorkshire.
Where to start
Which question brought you here?
Eight guides, each written to answer one problem properly before it says a word about us. Pick the one that sounds like your business and read it. If you then want a second opinion on your own site, the form at the bottom of every page is there for that.
Find you. Trust you. Choose you.
Where SEO sits in the bigger picture
Ranking is only the first of three jobs. A business has to be found, then believed, then picked, and the search advice on this site is written with the other two in mind. Here is what falls under each.
Find you
Find you: the search work
Everything on this site starts here. Being present for the searches that carry buying intent in your part of Yorkshire, in the organic results, in the map pack and in the AI answers that increasingly sit above both.

Trust you
Trust you: the evidence
A page that ranks and then shows a stranger nothing to judge you on has wasted the click. Named projects, real photographs, reviews and guides like these are what turn a visit into a shortlist.

The last job is making the enquiry easy. Clear messaging, a form that asks for the right things, and tracking that tells you which pages actually produced the phone call.

Three Yorkshire businesses and what search did for them
The guides on this site lean on these three, because they are the work we can show you with numbers attached. Brighouse, Halifax and Huddersfield, with jobs across the county.
Commercial brickwork · Brighouse, sites across Yorkshire · Search work since 2018
Bond Brickwork
Business
A brickwork and masonry contractor working out of Brighouse for the national housebuilders, on large residential developments across the county. Swarcliffe in east Leeds is one of them.
Problem
Housebuilders and main contractors look for a brickwork subcontractor by trade and by region, and the searches they type were being answered by firms with far less to show.
Work
We designed and built the website and have managed it and the search work around it since 2018: a page for each capability, named developments in named towns, and drone photography of the sites as the brick went up.
First on Google for the commercial brickwork searches that bring work, and recommended when AI search is asked the same question.
Electrical contractor · Halifax · Brand, website, SEO and content
RB Electrical
Business
A Halifax electrical contractor covering commercial and domestic work, with EV charging a growing side of the business: Rolec installers, OZEV approved.
Problem
The services people search for were bundled onto one general page, so a search for EV charger installation, or a commercial rewire, found nothing specific to land on.
Work
Brand, website, SEO, content and ongoing marketing. Each service got its own page, EV charging among them, with enough on it to rank in its own right and to convince the person who arrived.
An average of around two organic leads a week for five years, at roughly a 5:1 return on what the work has cost.
Gas engineer · Huddersfield · Website, positioning, SEO and AI search
Dolphin Heating
Business
Fay Dolphin, a Gas Safe registered engineer in Huddersfield with more than 25 years in the trade and one van. Plenty of the people who ring her are looking for a female gas engineer in particular.
Problem
The thing that made the business different was the thing nobody had written down, so the people typing it into Google found somebody else.
Work
Website, positioning, SEO and AI search, all built around the phrase customers actually use. One clear page, plain words, real photographs, and the reviews doing the persuading.
First on Google for female gas engineer Huddersfield, and named in the AI answer to the same question.
“David created me a new website. He was easy to talk to and understood exactly what I wanted. I was very impressed with his knowledge and he was always on hand if I had any questions. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend David and Halizona. Excellent service.”

Common questions
SEO in Yorkshire, the questions we get asked
Is Halizona actually based in Yorkshire?
Yes. Halizona is based in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and has a York address on The Stonebow for the county-wide work. Every client named in these guides is a Yorkshire business, and meetings, photography and filming happen in person.
Is this an agency site or a guide?
Both, and the guides come first. This site exists to answer the SEO questions Yorkshire business owners put to us most often, properly enough to act on without ringing anybody. Halizona does the work described in them too, and the form at the bottom of every page is there when you would sooner somebody else did it.
What does SEO cost in Yorkshire?
It depends on what you are trying to rank for and who already ranks for it. A service term in Leeds or Sheffield means competing with firms that have ten years of links behind them; the same term in Skipton, Keighley or Wakefield can have almost nobody targeting it properly. That difference is what sets the budget, so we look before we quote.
You get a fixed monthly figure after we have been through your site and your competition, so you know what you are paying for before anything starts.
How long does SEO take to work?
Usually a few months before the trend is clear, and then it keeps building. A technical fault holding a site back can be fixed and felt much sooner. If you need work in a fortnight, paid search is the honest answer and we will say so.
Can you guarantee a first-page ranking?
No, and neither can anyone else, because the results belong to Google. What we can give you is a straight read on what is achievable for your terms in your town, what it would take, and how we would measure it.
What is the difference between SEO and AI search?
SEO gets your pages ranked in Google’s results. AI search, sometimes called GEO or generative engine optimisation, is about being named when somebody asks ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s AI Overviews who to use. The two overlap heavily, because the AI tools read the same pages and the same reviews, but they are separate jobs and we work on both together.
Should we redesign the website before starting SEO?
Only if the platform is genuinely holding you back: nobody can edit it, it is slow on a phone, or the services you want work from have no page of their own. If the bones are sound, the search work can start on the site you have. A redesign done first without a search plan is one of the more reliable ways to lose the rankings you already had, and the migration guide on this site explains why.
Do you work with construction and trade businesses?
Yes, more than any other kind. Bond Brickwork, RB Electrical, Dolphin Heating, Standeven Flooring and Jack Lunn are all construction, trades or property businesses, and two of the eight guides on this site are written specifically for those sectors.
Where we work
Which parts of Yorkshire do the guides apply to?
All of it, because the principles do not change at the county line. What changes is the competition, and a term that takes a year to win in Leeds can be taken in a season in Skipton or Keighley. Our clients sit in Brighouse, Halifax and Huddersfield, with jobs from Swarcliffe in Leeds to Pudsey and Bradford, and we work with businesses across the county.

Want the right people across Yorkshire finding and choosing your business?
You may not need more marketing at all. Quite often the parts you already have simply need pointing in the same direction.
Tell us what you are trying to achieve, and we will help you find where the gaps are and which of the guides above applies to you.
